
Here at Chic & Raw, my husband and I have made a commitment to self care as a great way to start the New Year.
This means refocusing on meditation to cleanse the mind, removing toxins from our immediate environment, and cleansing our digestive systems. We kicked off the year with a cleansing diet full of soups, healthy grains, and proteins. I lost 5 kilos in a week, and it felt like a really deep clear-out!
We followed that up with a week of focusing on prebiotics and fermented foods that are good for gut microbiomes, which has been amazing as it changes how you think and is very grounding.
However, doing these diets can be quite stringent, so it’s important to do a few self-care rituals that soothe the mind and body at the same time. Little things, like taking more time to brush your hair, oil pulling for the teeth and gums, lighting scented candles for home relaxation, and taking a hot bath before bed, give you the gentle treatment you need while cleansing.
Scented candles, especially essential oil candles and aroma candles, can significantly enhance your relaxation routine. The right candles create a calming atmosphere and help reduce stress. I’ve learned recently that having a hot bath before bed and then going into a cool bedroom instigates the production of melatonin, which helps you sleep better. This is great if you’re prone to lying awake at night.
As a result of taking these steps, we’re feeling super relaxed (maybe a bit too relaxed!) and ready for anything.
